Kitchen orchid in HDR…

Kitchen Orchid II HDR

This orchid has been sitting in the kitchen window for months, now… seemingly since the fall.
I’ve never seen a flower last so long.
The secret, as I’ve learned, is to water them with ice cubes placed on the top of the soil.
Counterintuitive, given their tropical origins… but it works!

The halo effect around the plant isn’t the result of sloppy editing, so much as it’s the result of an
incredibly bright window in the background, as well as an extremely shallow depth of field.
Removing extraneous ‘things’ from around the plant was a snap, given the conditions.
